the kills

The Kills are an alternative rock band with an American lead vocalist and guitarist, Alison Mosshart, and British guitarist, Jaime Hince. They have three albums out now and all have gathered a lot of critical praise. I personally love The Kills they sing some of my favorite songs like "Sour Cherry" which became famous through the Gossip Girl commercials and the songs "Black Balloon" and "What New York used to be". All great songs. Oh and the

Song of the Day October 19th

Song of the Day is:
"Feel it in my Bones (ft. Tegan and Sara)" by Tiesto
and
"Gold Guns Girls" by Metric

tegan and sara
Tegan and Sara

Tiesto
DJ Tiesto

Metric's Emily Haines
Metric's Lead Singer, Emily Haines.

I have done two songs to make up for my lack for postage but they are both on the playlist here to listen to. Both are kind of electronic-y mixed with alternative. Metrics song is great cause its more rock/alternative but with electronic influence. The Tiesto song is different. DJ Tiesto is known for remixes and mashups but this song is great. Its more electronic than Metrics song but it's just as great.
Enjoy.

A Salute To Owl City

OWL CITY. What do I say about them but FABULOUS. They are amazing. They recently have become popular but I have actually been following them since the beginning of 2009. I always wondered why they weren't on the radio, then last weekend I was home in LA and heard "Fireflies" on the radio! Owl City actually consists of only one member, Adam Young. I never would have guessed it was one guy but I know he does a lot of collaborations with other artist in his songs. He is out of Owatonna, Minnesota and has been active since 2007 and signed with Universal Records. He claims that his sound is Electronic, Pop, and Synthesized, BUT his main influences are European Disco and Euro Electronic Music. My friends and I concluded that his song "Vanilla Twilight" sounds like a mix of Death Cab for Cutie mixed with the electric Hello Goodbye sound. That is what I think his style sounds like.
Owl City member

It's crazy that he managed to release two albums before he was even signed! He became so popular on his music Myspace had over 5 million views on his tracks, no wonder he got signed. The first song that made me fall in love with Owl City was really the song on his new album called "Vanilla Twilight". I downloaded it because it sounded so unique and cool and once I played I realized how amazing his lyrics were and how much I related to them right at that moment (missing friends and family). When I first heard it the lyrics made me think of my group of friends from high school and how much I missed them here at college. It actually made me super homesick, and I ended up convincing my parents to let me come home for the weekend, but I love this song. The other songs I fell in love with were songs like "Fireflies", "Hello Seattle", "West Coast Friendship", "Fuzzy Blue Lights" and "The Bird and the Worm". I recommend all of them and his new album is great too. Check it out. It's worth it.

Owl City Album

Check out Owl City. They are great and I honestly love every song on the new album.

Song of the Day September 30th

The Song of The Day is:
"Starz in their eyes" by Just Jack

Just Jack

Just Jack is an amazing artist. His songs like "Starz in their eyes", "Embers", "Electrickery", "The Day I died", and "Doctor Doctor (Faulke Remix)" are my favorites of his but his whole Overtones Album is AMAZING. His real name is Jack Allstop from North London, England. He started DJing in the London scene around the age of 15 and then started doing his own garage and DJ style music. He really started writing and was signed in 2002 by RGR records then switched to Mercury records in 2003. He reminds me of the male, little more electric Lily Allen. He's got the Lily Allen style but a little more rap. I recommend his whole cd. I have it and I love it. Check him out for sure, he's bomb.

so the other Song of the Day is:
"Plastic Jungle" by The Miike Snow

MusicPlaylist
Music Playlist at MixPod.com

Photobucket

The Miike Snow is a Swedish band from Stockholm that was created in 2007. They consider themselves to have an Electro Pop and Indie Pop sound. To me they sound like a little more Electro than Animal Collective mixed with Sam Sparro. But that's just me! Listen for yourself. I can't really pin point who they remind me of which is why I love them cause they aren't similar to something else out there. They also have a great song called "Animal". Totally recommend downloading it.

A Salute To Phoenix

Phoenix is a mix of everything I love in music. They are edgy, out there, and there music is an instant hit. Phoenix is a Indie Rock band that hails from Versailles, France. They created the band in their childhood years in the Suburbs of Versailles. They claim that their influences come from Air (Another great French Group) and Daft Punk (AMAZING French group). They have a sweet mix of Indie Rock with a little bit of Alternative and a tad Electronic. They are phenomenal and I recommend looking them up.

A Salute To The Foals

Photobucket
The Foals....The UK's Best Kept SECRET! Whats with the UK holding all these amazing bands and not sharing!! They are AMAZING and I can't believe I didn't know about them until this summer but I'm glad I did. I found them while watching this popular show from the UK called Skins.

Photobucket

Skins is about a bunch of British kids that literally live the term Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n' Roll. One episode they are all out in the country side, bored out of their minds, when one of the guys, Chris is smoking a joint and comes to the conclusion that they should throw a raging party in the woods at an abandoned castle. The castle has a whole back story. It supposedly use to be lived in by a Lord that was known for his insane parties, but they don;t even know if the castle exists. Naturally his friends think he is insane but...they do it. In the episode at "The Secret Party" (the episodes name), The Foals play the song (and my favorite) "Hummer" at the party. What I'm trying to say is, One: Watch Skins if you don't its amazing. Two: DOWNLOAD The Foals NOW. They are amazing.

Photobucket

Some of my favorites are:
  1. Hummer (my favorite)
  2. Olympic Airways (my other favorite)
  3. Balloons
  4. Dearth
  5. The French Open
  6. Electric Bloom
  7. Cassius
I'm sure there are plenty other great songs by them, go find them!

Photobucket

I have an OBSESSION with The Foals and all British Indie/Alternative bands you'll come to find.

Living For The Sound

Living For The Sound. By Shannon.
A thing I try to live by everyday. I listen to it, I play it, I breathe it. Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche once said that, "Without Music, life would be a mistake", and I couldn't agree with him more.

How many of us, everyday, wake up and turn on the radio? Listen to music on the way to school or to work? Listen to their iPod while working out or before going to sleep?

I know I do. I've become a complete music buff because of it too.

I can't get enough of it. From Alternative, Indie, Folk, Rap, Hip-Hop, Classical, Rock, Techno, Mash-ups, Remixes, Acoustic, Electronic, Reggae, even Country and Jazz. I've become completely and utterly obsessed. That's what this is for. For me to post my favorite music (new or old) and just put out into the cosmic void, some music that means something to me. I hope you enjoy it.

I fell into making this blog because of one of my friends. My friends all know how much of a music freak I am and I'm constantly making mix CD's for them. She made a joke about how she doesn't know where she will be able to get all of her music now that we are leaving each other for college, so here it is. Music over the internet to my friends. People, Places, Schools, Homes, and Friends may change, but the Music always stays the same. So this blog is for all my friends or any strangers to get great music if they want it.

Here We Go...
