Song of the Day November 9th

The Song of the Day is:
"Good for Great" by Matt and Kim
matt and kim

I love Matt and Kim and this song is def a good testament to their work. I love their songs like "Daylight" and "Good Old Fashion Nightmare". Download them if you don't have them! They have this song that is very unique with their voices. I don't really know how to explain it but the harmonies they create are awesome. They are an Indie Rock band out of Brooklyn, New York and formed in 2004. There two members, obviously from their group name. Matt Johnson plays the keyboard and does vocals and Kim Schifino plays the drums and also does vocals. They always intrigue me with their music and hopefully it keeps on coming.

A Great Song

If I hadn't already used this song as a song of the day, I would again. Just listen. There is nothing to hate about this song. It always puts me in a good mood and gets me going. The Kills in general do that but with "Cheap and Cheerful", it's always the best.

A Salute To Travis

Thank God for two things...1. Bands that come out of the UK and 2. For Travis.
Photobucket

Travis is an amazing group out of Glasglow, Scotland (Again the UK) and is one of my favorite bands out of Scotland. If it weren't for Travis (which took off in 1990), bands like Coldplay, Keane, and Snow Patrol (and other UK bands) would not be as famous as they are today. Those bands have mimicked their sound, style and more and used Travis (and Oasis I'm sure) as inspiration for their music. Seriously if you play it without the vocals, the first thing that would come to mind is, "oh this is probably Coldplay" but Travis came way before Coldplay. Their sound paved the way for such a new music movement. With an alternative/rock-brit pop rock sound, they were really the first of their kind to make music like this and have it take off. They have six albums out, all of which hold some of the best music I have ever heard. They use the harmonies and pitches of their voices to hit impossible notes that sound so sweet together (Sound Familiar? Coldplay much?). They just have the sweetest sound and use piano, guitar, drum and all sorts of instruments and the end result is always tantalizing to hear. It's like a haunting kind of sound that echos perfectly. Check them OUT please.

Song of the Day May 13th

The Song of the Day is:
"Clear Skies" by Keane
Photobucket

This song is from Keane's new album called, "Night Train", just out May 10, 2010. Keane is from East Sussex, England (again, my obsession with British bands). They have been together since 1995! They have a great sound. A blend of rock with an alternative rock/piano spin on it. It really has this relaxed quality to it when you listen to it. On their new album "Night Train", I downloaded "Clear Skies", "Stop for a Minute" and "Your Love", well actually their whole album is really good. If you like the Shins with a mix of Coldplay, this is it. They are edgy like the Shins but classically haunting like Colplay. Def check them out. They are famous for their classics like, "Somewhere only we know" and "Bad Dream" which are great songs but this album is different from their usual stuff.

Song of the Day April 22, 2010

Song of the Day is:
"Something Good Can Work" by Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club is a an Electropop/Indie Rock band from Northern Ireland. They formed in 2007 in Bangor/Donaghdee, Ireland where they are from. The signed with the French label Kitsune Music, for European needs, and Glassnote Records in the US. On March 1, 2010, they released their debut album titled Tourist History. The band has opened for many other great bands over the past two years, including two of my favorites, Phoenix and Foals. This song "Somethign Good Can Work" is my favorite of their songs but I also love "I Can Talk", "What You Know", "Cigarettes in the Theatre" and "Uncover Martyn". All great songs, I extremely recommend checking out their new cd! It is awesome.

Song of the Day March 30th

Song of the Day is:
"Little Lion Man" by Mumford and Sons

Mumford and Sons

Mumford and Sons is an English indie folk band out of London. This is the first song I have by them and I want to look into them more. I like their sound it reminds me of a band and I cannot remember their name. I'll find it and get back to it. But they have a new CD called Sigh No More that released Feb. 16, 2010 so its fairly new and I just checked it out and so should you. This son just stood out to me and its beautiful. I think they remind me of the singer Glen Hansard from the movie and soundtrack Once. That's just my opinion.

Song of the Day March 24th

The Song of the Day is:
"Psychotic Girl" by The Black Keys

The Black Keys

This song reminds me of an emo Spoon or Rooney kind of. Not as beach rock like Spoon and Rooney are but their music reminds me of them, maybe a little bit of Beck in there too. I don't know... anyways. This song is from the Black Keys 2008 album called "Attack and Release". Other good songs from this album are "I got mine", "Lies" and "So he won't break". These Akron, Ohio boys havent come out with a recent cd but when they do be sure to check it out. They have an awesome sound that combines rock, blues and garage all in one.

Song of the Day March 19th

The Song of the Day is:
"Lights and Music" by Cut Copy

Cut Copy
Cut Copy is a synthapop band from Melborne, Austrailia. They have an electropop alternative dance sound that can sound 80's-ish but is really unique. They have been together since 2001 to the present and are still coming out with songs. I love some of their other songs like "Feeling Love" and "Hearts on Fire". I think they have a great relaxing but unique sound which makes them so alluring and different. The sound they offer up isn't like many others and I love that.

The Song of the Day is:
"October" by Broken Bells
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4X8eR4hI_H4
(A youtube link to the song)

Broken Bells

The Broken Bells are an American Indie Rock/Alternative Rock band that consist of two guys, Danger Mouse (real name Brian Burton) and James Mercer, WHO use to be the lead vocalist for the indie band The Shins who I loveeeee. I didn't know that was him until I looked their new album up and then I thought, "No wonder I love them, he was in the Shins". They signed with Columbia Records in 2009 and have been working together since 2008 when they met at a Danish Music festival and decided to work together. They are great. They describe their sound as "melodic, but experimental too". Like I said their new cd just came out on March 9th, 2010 and it's full of great indie rock songs. I love "October" but I also love "The High Road", "The Ghost Inside" and "Vaporize".

Song of the Day March 17th

The Song of the Day is:
"Electrikery" by Just Jack
(not available on mixpod.com)

Photobucket

Just Jack, I saluted him a while back but I recently have been playing him a lot. He really is the male Lily Allen. He has this garage hip hop sound that makes him have this edgy hip hop/rap style that isn't common which is why he is so great. Check him out though all of his songs are amazing, especially, "Embers", "Starz in their Eyes", "The Day I Died", "Disco Friends" and "Writer's Block".
