A Salute To Owl City

OWL CITY. What do I say about them but FABULOUS. They are amazing. They recently have become popular but I have actually been following them since the beginning of 2009. I always wondered why they weren't on the radio, then last weekend I was home in LA and heard "Fireflies" on the radio! Owl City actually consists of only one member, Adam Young. I never would have guessed it was one guy but I know he does a lot of collaborations with other artist in his songs. He is out of Owatonna, Minnesota and has been active since 2007 and signed with Universal Records. He claims that his sound is Electronic, Pop, and Synthesized, BUT his main influences are European Disco and Euro Electronic Music. My friends and I concluded that his song "Vanilla Twilight" sounds like a mix of Death Cab for Cutie mixed with the electric Hello Goodbye sound. That is what I think his style sounds like.
Owl City member

It's crazy that he managed to release two albums before he was even signed! He became so popular on his music Myspace had over 5 million views on his tracks, no wonder he got signed. The first song that made me fall in love with Owl City was really the song on his new album called "Vanilla Twilight". I downloaded it because it sounded so unique and cool and once I played I realized how amazing his lyrics were and how much I related to them right at that moment (missing friends and family). When I first heard it the lyrics made me think of my group of friends from high school and how much I missed them here at college. It actually made me super homesick, and I ended up convincing my parents to let me come home for the weekend, but I love this song. The other songs I fell in love with were songs like "Fireflies", "Hello Seattle", "West Coast Friendship", "Fuzzy Blue Lights" and "The Bird and the Worm". I recommend all of them and his new album is great too. Check it out. It's worth it.

Owl City Album

Just Jack

Just Jack is an amazing artist. His songs like "Starz in their eyes", "Embers", "Electrickery", "The Day I died", and "Doctor Doctor (Faulke Remix)" are my favorites of his but his whole Overtones Album is AMAZING. His real name is Jack Allstop from North London, England. He started DJing in the London scene around the age of 15 and then started doing his own garage and DJ style music. He really started writing and was signed in 2002 by RGR records then switched to Mercury records in 2003. He reminds me of the male, little more electric Lily Allen. He's got the Lily Allen style but a little more rap. I recommend his whole cd. I have it and I love it. Check him out for sure, he's bomb.

The Miike Snow is a Swedish band from Stockholm that was created in 2007. They consider themselves to have an Electro Pop and Indie Pop sound. To me they sound like a little more Electro than Animal Collective mixed with Sam Sparro. But that's just me! Listen for yourself. I can't really pin point who they remind me of which is why I love them cause they aren't similar to something else out there. They also have a great song called "Animal". Totally recommend downloading it.

Sea Wolf is an indie rock band led by Alex Brown Church. They are based in L.A. (My hometown!)n addition to Alex Brown Church, the other members of Sea Wolf are currently Lisa Fendelander (keyboards), Theodore Liscinski (bass), Joey Ficken (drums), Nathan Anderson (guitar), and Joyce Lee (cello). They have so many great songs and I've loved them for about 4 years now. The obvious song i first fell in love with was their hit single "You're a Wolf" and I also love their songs "Middle Distant Runner", "The Garden that you Planted", "Stanislaus" and "O Maria". They have many other great songs but those are my favorites for sure. ALSO, Check out the remix of "The Cold, The Dark and The Silence"...download the Bit Funk Remix. SO GOOD. It was actually the first version I had of the song but I loved the original as well. Sea Wolfs a classic, never gets old. Never.

passion pits

I love the Passion Pits, I'm actually kind of obsessed with them. I really need to buy their whole cd but I'll get around to that. This song "Little Secrets" is so great. Its a mix of like Peter Bjorn and John with Phoenix and Cut Copy. WHICH are three of my all time favorite bands EVER. Passion Pits are out of Cambridge, Massachussetts and banded in 2007. They claim to be mainly Alternative, Indie Rock, and Electronic. They are amazing. Also make sure to check out their songs "Sleepyhead" and "Moth's Wing". SO GOOD.
